Abstract: Analysis of folklore and ethnographic material reveals characteristic features of South Russian and North Russian types of weddings that are realized in the study area; selected regional features were studied. The paper identifies the number of problems associated with the preservation and development of the traditional wedding ritual complex of the southern Urals in modern conditions. The culturological study of the researched phenomenon constitutes the analysis of the main socio-cultural changes occurring in the traditional wedding ritual complex of the Russian population of the southern Urals (forfeiting magical functions, curtailment, or complete oblivion of ritual action, change of regulation for the wedding ceremony, the introduction of new traditions, the presence and degree of preservation of rituals that persist today in modern wedding).
Keywords: traditional wedding-ceremonial complex, a traditional wedding ceremony, contemporary wedding.
