Abstract: History of the origin of the first Russian theater is closely connected with the formation of a new courtly culture of the late 17th century, established during the reign of Tsar Aleksey Mikhailovich. The new realities were fully reflected in the depiction of women’s images in the early Russian drama. Women`s images in the first plays for Russian theater «Ahasuerus action» and «Judith», which were written by the Lutheran church pastor and German-born Johann Gottfried Gregory, absorbed baroque representation of this time (although with a more optimistic slant), and also showed highlights of the Russian court life in the 70s of XVII century. Biblical heroines of early Russian drama have an inherent sense of fragility, impermanence, life variability (eg, Vashti), decisive behavior in a difficult period of life (Esther and Judith).
Keywords: Russian theater and drama of the 17th century, women`s images, court ceremonies, Bible stories, Baroque.
