Abstract: The article addresses the issue of the analogy between the image of a bird and the image of a tree, which existed among the ancient Slavs. The issue is studied with the use of the Slavic folk culture material. Analysis of these comparisons are made taking into account the features of the pagan worldview. Traces of archaic analogies between a «plant» and a «bird's» code are preserved in the Russian national dialects, in the riddles, in folk beliefs and also are reflected in mythology. It helps us to understand better a fantastic image of a «bird-tree», embodied in the Slavic art (on embroidery, in the paintings and in the wood carving). All this, according to the author, indicates that the comparisons of the image of a bird and the image of a tree were permissible in ancient Slavic worldview.
