Abstract: This article deals with the influence of Gogol on poetics and attitudes of Fyodor Dostoyevsky. A comparison of the works of Gogol «Selected Passages from the Correspondence with Friends» with the novel «The Brothers Karamazov» by Dostoevsky reveals new facets of creative dialogue of writers and fills in some gaps of research problem «Gogol – Dostoevsky». The paper traces the Dostoevsky development of Gogol’s thought about the need for not only just and fair trial, but also the inevitability of the divine court — human responsibility before God and man. There is evidence that Dostoevsky followed Gogol when he showed that the innocent and the guilty should look at themselves and feel guilty, repent and be Christian to forgive each other on the example of brothers Karamazov. The words of Elder Zosima that each person is personally guilty before all and for all, — is a continuation of Gogol’s idea that no man is right, God alone is right. Thus, it has been established that while working on the novel «The Brothers Karamazov», Dostoevsky turned to the «correspondence» by Gogol, reflecting on the religious and philosophical issues of this book.
