Abstract: N. A. Berdyaev interprets the phenomenon of «Russian Revolution» as a personal point of his biography, which is the basis for the interpretation of the social and philosophical themes as the problems of the epoch. Revolution took place in Russia in spite of Marxist doctrine, and the key role was played by the faith in People’s Freedom of Russian intelligentsia. «Russian Marxism» was characterized by the interest in class approach, «messianic» consciousness of the proletariat, the revolutionary psychology orientation as a measure of social transformation. The inevitability of the revolution was the result of the lack of positive creative forces in the society. Revolution as a factor of social change in the assessment of the philosopher is a tragic experience of social cognition associated with the practice of terror, violence against person, political domination of the mass consciousness. By changing a social hierarchy, political revolutions do not create a «new anthropological type», although such a task is set, as they are not related to the «eternal» cultural principle in man - «the quality of humanity». Neither is freedom as a social ideal born in revolutions, as the essence of freedom is not democratic but aristocratic. Thus, a humane transformation of society, the true liberation of man is not connected with the political, but with spiritual revolution, which is the result of the activities of the free personality oriented at life creativity.
