Abstract: The beginning of the relationship between Athos and Russ took its rise from the depths of the centuries. Tver kingdom together with Novgorod kingdom played an outstanding role in the development of those relations. The most vivid demonstration of interest to Byzantine, particularly Athos, art traditions in Russian art was in XIX century and took shape in Russian-Byzantine style. The hegumen of Nicholo-Malitsa monastery Boris Tulupov had an idea to reconstruct the monastery which would be based on the ancient monastery traditions in modern Russia. He introduced the elements of Athos monastic culture into various aspects of monastic life principally the divine service. The Holy Mount Athos typikon was put in place in renewed Nicholo-Malitsa monastery by its hegumen`s initiative. The divine services are celebrated according to the Athos rite. Аthos and Constantinople traditions are also kept up in architecture, monumental painting, applied and decorative Arts. Some hymns during all services are performed under the Athos rite with the ison in Greek. Athos influence in the architecture is connected with an appeal of the architectural look and structure of the Agios Zoni (the Girdle temple) of Vatopedi monastery. The Cathedral of intercession of the Holy Virgin in Tver was built following the form of the Girdle temple. The mural decoration of this cathedral followed the iconography programme which took shape in Byzantine in the middle of XI century. The manner of work is close to Crete school. The decoration of this temple is connected with Athos temples iconography in Dionisiat and Vatoped monasteries. Nicholo-Malitsa monastery is unique to Tver region and the whole Russia.
