Abstract

The article explores a number of variants of representation of Slavic Paganism in Soviet and Russian films and TV programs. Previously, this topic almost did not attract scientists’ attention, despite the availability of considerable material that requires requiring closer attention. Whereas filmmakers of the Soviet era expressed their sympathy mostly for the pagans and not the Сhristians, now the situation is reversed. The reason for this is the State's position, which focuses on the support of the Russian Orthodox Church. However, television displays tendencies toward rehabilitation and romantisation of paganism, which may be considered as a reflection of the needs of Russian society. Probably, the opposition of pro-christian and pro-pagan intentions in Russian films and TV shows will only grow.
