Abstract

The primary focus is on the poet`s work previously unaddressed from the point of view of lexical structure and stylistics of the text. The paper on a single case study basis implements the search of internal laws of the art world impact combining with a survey of previously unexplored volume and various parameters` classification of the author`s metaphorical units. Features of the work`s metaphorical system were used to reconstruct linguistic fragment of I. Selvinsky`s worldview. The principles of creative thinking of Soviet intellectuals of the 30-s, with their ideological and aesthetic preferences, is exemplified by I. Selvinsky’s artistic thought which is expressed in symbiosis of reduced and high poetic styles. In the verses of the poet-publicist the motives with high-flown and propagandistic, neutral-mix-style with both printed and spoken are intertwined. Within reduced, i.e. spoken style and all its out-style varieties the author demonstrates tremendous diversity and abundance of normal nomination-summative as well as evaluative-expressive metaphorical units embedded into the context of the artwork. Socio-linguistic pastiche, focused on the language of a particular social environment, stands out just as the aesthetically determined pragmatism, imagery, emotionality and expressiveness do. We define the expressive function of metaphor of “Journey...” as leading and invariant.

Keywords
