Abstract

The article is devoted to the Russian dialectal lexemes referring to a confined geographical space. The lexemes are etymologized along with the interpretation of the ancient origins of words (Indo-European and proto-Slavic). The etymology of words shows that a closed space is perceived in an actional way — as the limit to the action of a person or an animal. All the names in dialects of the European North of Russia are native and reflect an ancient proto-Slavic roots. For a number of tokens enantiosemy of inner form is detected.

Keywords

lexeme, semantics, nomination, Russian language, Slavic language, North Russian dialects, the internal form, the European North of Russia.
