Abstract: Comparison of the novel «Abode» with the reminiscences of the Solovky prisoners shows mythogenic nature of this writing. The absence of real historical perspective has made it impossible for the contemporary writer to trace the genesis of the camp’s environment and attain spiritual understanding of the GULAG phenomenon. The writing’s novelty is achieved by changing the reference point of that degree of reality which defines views and deeds of the heroes and ultimately those of the readers.
