Abstract: This article discusses unexplored semantic changes in the military theme in some folksy later editions of ancient tales mostly on the lists of the end XVII – early XVIII centuries, namely in the stories of Beauvais, about Eruslane, Vasily Konstantinovich, and Amir (the last two are not well known). Judging by repeated motives and means of expression, former traditional base of military stories changed radically in each story and was replaced by «servicemen», then by feeble ones, and then by the primitive adventurous and gallant characters that reflected the new mood of the Russian society of the time of Peter's changes in such half-fairytale monuments.
Keywords: folksy story, a military theme, motif, editor
