Abstract: Continuity in philosophy can be traced on two levels. The first is the ideographic level, fixing processes of filiation of ideas. The second level summarizes the cultural, social and psychological factors of philosophycal development. Ideological and philosophical continuity can be performed both in the mode of acceptance and denial (when ideas are adopted from opponents during the debate); directly (from teacher to student) and indirectly (when the tradition is reborn through the generations). Certain institutional weakness of Russian philosophy until the second half of XIX century led to a number of features that have become traditional for the Russian philosophizing. Historically unspecialized forms of philosophical creativity dominated in Russia; late development of philosophical culture led as a result to high dependence on imported spiritual content. In a social context, philosophy in Russia has long been associated with religious and political free-thinking. Starting from the first centuries, a thinker in prison or in exile is a typical figure for Russian culture, the phenomenon of «lurking» (forbidden) philosophical literature is also characteristic of it. Leading vectors of philosophizing in modern Russia (Marxism, cognitivism, postmodernism, contextualism) genetically and typologically are rooted in the history of Russian and Soviet philosophy.
