Abstract: The performance of ballet «The Rite of Spring» by I. Stravinsky on the stage of National opera of Ukraine (2002) under the direction of the well-known choreographer R. Poclitaru in the context of cultural innovations of Ukrainian ballet and in the light of traditions of choreographic culture of ХХ century is analysed. The original idea of the ballet-master in reading the score by I. Stravinsky was based on the desire to tell about the aspiration of a little man for the personal happiness in an aggressive, cruel environment which is hostile to any displays of independence and sincere feelings of individual. It is a well-proven fact that a theatrical performance, named by R. Poclitaru a ballet-parable and a warning, organically blended in the stream of his performances, where a choreographer comes forward as an opponent of conformism, thoughtless obedience to the regime and social laws, born by it. The stylistics of postmodern, selected by R. Poclitaru, as a method of sociocultural confrontation, appeared to be convincing from the point of view of the given genre and stylistics.
