| Abstract: |
Vuk Karadzich takes the first place in the Slavic ethnology, particularly, in the history of funeral ritual studies. Funeral laments and rituals have the significant role in Vuk Karadzich scientific work. The publication of six texts of laments in the collection «Serbian folk songs, book 1, in which there are different female songs» (Vienna, 1841) contributed to waking up the interest to this genre of folklore in the Europe. By analyzing the local traditions of lamenting in the context of ritual in the region, Karadzich depicted the visual picture of traditional folklore existing also in: «The coffer» (1849), «The life and customs of Serbian people» (1867), «Montenegro and Boka Kotorska» (1837), he also explained the terminology of the ritual in the «Serbian Dictionary» (1818, 1852). With his works Karadzich attracted attention to the traditional culture and folklore which revealed the ethnic life and turned to be the «Serbian folk distinction» (M. Filipovich). Continuing the European, particularly the German and Russian scientific tradition of his contemporary epoch, Vuk at the same time in many ways anticipated the trends of European ethnology in future, particularly, by his innovating activity, particularly by the object of scientific analysis, tasks and principles of investigation. |
