Abstract: For many years Russian higher education institutions did without an anthology which would reflect a level of Slavistics development. The formation of this genre was closely connected to the history of native Slavistics. First attempts to represent old Slavic texts in educational materials were made in 1820-1840s. At that time the anthologies by I. Peninskiy and A. Galakhov, which reflected the history of the Russian philology development since XI up to XVIII century, were published. The historic anthology by F. I. Buslaev in 1956 was also of integrated nature but it already contained extracts from five old Slavonic records together with historical-linguistic commentary and furthermore it followed the rules of availability and linguistic value. The decisions taken at pre-congress of Russian slavists, after which an anthology by N. M. Karinskiy appeared, played a large part in the development of the anthology genre. Karinskiy continued Buslaev`s work and enlarged the number of old Slavonic sources to eleven but still considered his book to be a textbook on the Russian language with a measurable part of the old Russian sources. A. M. Selischev paved the way to the proper old Slavonic anthology. His posthumously published work «Old Slavonic Language» (1951-1952) contributed to the establishment of the term old Slavonic language in educational materials as well as laid the groundwork of the genre. The first old Slavonic anthology was published in 1984 byA. N. Stetsenko. The anthology that recognized the Slavistics achievements of the beginning of the XXI century and сonformed to the state standards of higher education in the Russian Federation appeared in 2011.
