Abstract: Any language, including poetry, is in constant development. The dialectical contradictions serve as the source of language development. One of the main contradiction is the mismatch between the emerging new ideas and existing linguistic means to express them. The poetry of the twentieth century is characterized not only by the new themes, images and view of the world, but, in comparison to the nineteenth century, also by a different poetic language, which often becomes a complex, existential form of reflection of the world. The article defines a new concept on determination of the semantic complexity of the poetic text, introduces the term «allotropy of the poetic text»; defines allotropic text, identifies the main linguistic markers of allotropy; proposes the formula for determining allotropic poetic text, explains the new terminology used in the study of the poetic text in this approach.
