Abstract: The article is devoted to the olfactory of Russian prose texts of the beginning of the XIXth century. Author reveals fragments of descriptions of smells and olfactory sensations, and shows the dynamics of the olfactory poetics. The article focuses on the prose works of such authors as V. Narezhny and F. Glinka. The Russian olfactory is connected with the earlier tradition, which the author dates back to «The Sermon on Law and Gracei» of Hilarion, and traces it in the ancient literature and fiction of the XVIIIth century.
