Abstract: The article is dedicated to Luka Zhidiata’s Old Russian sermons. It is noted that despite the fact that the figure of Luka is symbolic and he was the first known author of the original writing, the attention to his work is obviously insufficient. In research it is shown that the wealth of meaning is concentrated in a small form. Luka Zhidiata’s creativity is estimated as the bright and outstanding phenomenon in the religious life of Russia of the era of its Christianization. There are proofs that Luka Zhidiata’s skill was shown not in rhetorical tricks and not in richness of book sources, but in the ability to make the complex thing simple, obvious and clear for newly enlightened people. The all-adjusting states of the Christianity and the code of external piety’s rules are presented here in easily under- stood form. It met the tasks of establishing the Christianity in the northern lands of Russia.
