Abstract: In the process of comparative historiographical and ethnofunctional analysis of demographic reproduction in the ethnic group of Russian old residents of the settle- ment of Pokhodsk and the groups of Chuckchee and Yukagyri in Kolymskoye village in Nyzhnekolymsk region (the Yakutiya – Sakha Republic of Russia)in the the XX century, it was found that Russian group managed to preserve their own ethnic group, language and culture for centuries under very complicated conditions. As for Chuckchee and Yukagyri, the Chuckchee group preserved their traditional economy and culture unlike the Yukagyri group who partially lost both traditional economy and their folklore. Now the Chuckchee population is characterized by its demographic stability but the Yukagyri population is an example of unstable and diminishing population.
