Abstract: The Protestantism is more often described as a «flavor» than a major component of modernity, and it refers both to its progressive elements and manifestations of crisis. Starting with 90-s, Russia is subjected to an unprecedented impact of «Protestant civilization», which is often camouflaged by «objective» processes of globalization and democratization. The imperatives of individualism, efficiency, one-sided perception of progress make us think about the «limits to growth» of modern capitalist development model and its relationship to the traditions of the Protestant countries. The paper makes an attempt to find the grounds for systematization of the modern ideas about Protestantism.
Keywords: PROTESTANTISM AS THE DRIVING FORCE OF MODERNITY AND ITS CRISIS-GENIC FACTOR (PROTESTANT CULTURE AND THE «LIMITS TO GROWTH»), CRITICAL INTERPRETATION OF MODERNIZED PROTESTANTISM, THE STRATEGIC SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY OF PROTESTANTISM IN RUSSIA
