Abstract

The article is to display the works of outstanding French artist and public figure of the XIX century Alexander Vattemare (1796–1864). It reveals little-known facts of his biography, reflecting the powerful socioeconomic and political changes of the era of the French Revolutions. Vattemare amazed his contemporaries with virtuosic acting technique using the scenic reception of transformation — a rapid change in appearance. The fashion for the theatrical transformations is associated with the flowering of one-act vaudevilles with disguises on a French stage. Sensational numbers went to concert estrada as a “new attraction” in the beginning of the XIX century. Alexander Vattemare supplemented the impression with plasticity, intonation, witty lyrics and masterfully performing of the couplets and owned ventrology. The tour of Vattemare in Russia in 1834 became a great success. Sharp and funny scenes, reviews, where all the roles played by Alexander Vattemare, reflected the spirit and mores of his time. Under the influence of the acting skills of Vattemare, new traditions in the performance of short stories and “small forms” of drama developed in the “divertissements” and “intermissions” of the Imperial theatres. Short stories and small dramatic works were not simply read by artists, but “played in faces”, using transformation.

Keywords
