Abstract

The article looks at the compositional schemes and plots of the iconostases of the church of Pope Clement on Pyatnitskaya street in Moscow. This church, preserved at the time of the destruction and transformation of Moscow, is now available for visiting and may serve as a model for the creation of architectural compositions in terms of reconstruction of monuments of the mid-18th century Baroque. The space of the Christian temple is sacral, all its components having a semantic, symbolic meaning. The cultural monument is all the more valuable with the main original, not only artistic (here art is a means of expression), but also a theological architect`s design well-preserved, dating back to the reign of the Empress Elizabeth Petrovna. The paper`s authors analyze the paths of theological, mystical influence on the construction of an architectural space, the construction of a hierarchy of images and plots of icons and architectural elements, designed to emphasize the overall integrity of perception with a separate value of each element of the composition, up to its technical implementation. Many of the techniques used at this monument` construction are unique, both in complexity and innovation, they are unrivaled — this aspect is emphasized by the fact that Christian art, while preserving traditions, remains a living and evolving structure enriched by forms and symbols for many centuries. This perspective allows to portray and to perceive the church of Pope Clement in Zamoskvorechye as a unique, preserved ensemble of Christian culture most accurately.
